Set Top Box (STB)

A Set Top Box or as it is commonly known STB is an information appliance device which consists of a tuner which connects to a TV and an external source of signal. The external source of signal is a Reflector (dish). The reflector turns the signal into content which is then sent through the STB to the television. Set Top Boxes are used in Direct To Home (DTH) Services and Digital Cable systems. STB’s enhance the quality of signal received through the reflector of digital cable.

STB’s have various features which are not available in analog cable systems. A few of the famous features are Electronic Program Guide (EPG), Favorites, Timer, Live TV Recording (available in Digital Video Recorders), parental Lock.
