DTH
DTH is an acronym for ‘Direct to Home’ service. It is path-breaking in terms of
broadcasting of satellite channels on our televisions. Currently,
cable operators are providing analog signals to us. In effect, a viewer gets to
watch fewer channels and lesser quality. In a digital set up, the signal receptivity
is clear and all the channels have the same reception quality. Also as both the
signals are received at the same time, there are no issues with the synchronization
of sound with video. In DTH the customer will receive broadcasting
signals directly from the satellite on his set top box (STB); so that automatically
means fewer disturbances. The pictures broadcasted are of superior quality and carry
crystal clear sound. Another big advantage is that the viewer can opt to watch programs
of their choice with a wide range of channels and packages available. The package
can be totally customized based on the choice of the viewer. DTH
enables the customer to select and pay for only what he wants, unlike a single package
provided by cable operators.
There are only handful cable operators who have an organized set up and are large
enough to be able to switch from analog signals. It is practically impossible for
other cable operators to provide digital signals because of the cost involved. Even
if they provide the Set Top Box, they cannot match the bandwidth
by the organized sector.
Videocon d2h has a large bandwidth and is one of the top DTH players in the country
today. They provide the highest no. of channels and 13 HD channels
on their platform which is an evidence of the bandwidth that they carry. They are
swiftly moving towards becoming the no.1 player in this spectrum.
